Isabel Sörling

Isabel Sörling is a voice improviser, composer and musician, born 1987 in Ulricehamn, Sweden. She is currently based in Gothenburg and Paris, often working with musicians from France, Scandinavia or other european countries on the jazz and improvised scene (Airelle Besson, Paul Lay, Cabaret Contemporain, Joining Forces, Cirque Farouche, Paul Anquez, Bribe 4, Guilhem Fouzat, Leafcutter John, Clément Edouard and more). Isabel co-leads the two Swedish groups Farvel and Soil Collectors and also have her own solo project. She’s one of the founders of the website Improvised Vocal Forumcreated together with Linda Oláh and Casey Moir.

Isabel has studied improvised music at the University of Gothenburg 2008-2010, and also did an exchange year at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris 2010-2011.

In 2010 Farvel won the Young Nordic Jazz Comets, and in 2012 they were awarded with the Swedish National Radio prize Jazzkatten for Newcomer of the Year and in 2016 they were nominated as Best Group of the year.

In the fall of 2016 Isabel was listed as one of the five most influential contemporary jazz musicians in Europe by the British newspaper „The Guardian”

Furthermore Isabel has also worked as a studio musician with music composed by Armand Amar on the two documentaries Human (Yann Arthus Bertrand) and Terra (Yann Arthus Bertrand, Michael Pitiot).
