Aaron Turner

Aaron Turner is a musician and artist most recognized for his role as a guitarist/vocalist in the metal bands SUMAC and Isis.

Turner has participated in projects such as House of Low Culture, Jodis, Old Man Gloom, Mamiffer and more. He has collaborated live and in the studio with artists such as Masami Akita, Caspar Brötzmann, Stephen O'Malley, Keiji Haino, Justin Broadrick, Tashi Dorji, Daniel Menche, Kevin Martin / The Bug, Tim Hecker, James Plotkin and many others.

Over two decades, Turner's appearances have ranged from basements to international festivals and museum/gallery spaces. His work has been informed by a lifetime involvement with underground metal and hardcore, often materializing in highly abstracted forms utilizing processes of electro-acoustic exploration, improvisation and long-form composition. In addition to his musical projects, Turner is the founder/art director of Hydra Head Records label, focused on releasing heavy and experimental music.


More recently, Turner co-founded SIGE Records with partner Faith Coloccia, to publish their own works as well as that of their frequent collaborators. Current projects include live and studio work with his band SUMAC, solo performances and recordings, ongoing recording projects with Jon Mueller, Thalassa (w/William Fowler Collins), and continued participation in Mamiffer and Old Man Gloom.
