Music filled with spirituality separated from religion, contemporary explorations on the basis of tradition and classics, music of noises and clicks next to pure sounds and harmonies.

Kwartludium and Michał Jacaszek return after their sensational Katalog drzew with another joint original programme entitled Kolchida. This time the inspiration and starting point are Georgian polyphonic songs and the extremely rich and varied folk music of the Caucasus region. The idea to record new material emerged in 2019, when the musicians of Kwartludium were invited by the Polish Institute in Tbilisi for a study visit to Georgia. During many meetings, concerts and presentations of the Georgian culture, members of the ensemble became acquainted with ethnographic materials and the history of ancient Colchis (Kolchida in Polish), and made field recordings which will serve as starting material for the creation of original electroacoustic compositions. The ensemble invited Michał Jacaszek, one of the most recognised Polish creators of electronic music in the world, to cooperate on this material. It is based on a collective exploration of the extraordinary polyphony of Georgian music, its expressiveness and deep, solemn sound that stems from the unique vocal style used in Georgia.

The concert will open with Phase _1_4 by Stefan Węgłowski. It is a cycle of four pieces for piano and electronics written in 2021 and 2022. The album première of this work, released by the prestigious Kairos Records, is planned for July. Born in 1985, Węgłowski specialises in chamber music. In his works he uses minimalist and spectral techniques, combining them with the wide area of electronic music. He works as lecturer at the Faculty of Media Art of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He debuted at Sacrum Profanum in 2020 alongside Yeyoung Sohn. This time he will join forces with Adam Kośmieja, who accepted to perform the première of the cycle. Kośmieja is one of the most expressive Polish pianists of the young generation. He is constantly searching, and his repertoire consists of classical as well as avant-garde and multimedia pieces. The introduction to the cycle on repulsion was written by the world-famous Polish writer Łukasz Orbitowski: “I do not need to. I do not miss it. I remember and fear myself because I know how to do it. I can cross out friendship and kill that love. Goodbye. Some part of adulthood is to accept and then tame your own cruelty. However, I understand that this is the price of any closeness. To be close with people, I have to be able to push them away, always for a good reason.”
