Oskar Tomala

Born in Tychy in 1996. Polish sound artist, composer and improviser based in Copenhagen and Gdańsk. He works in the field of instrumental composition, electroacoustic installations and music for motion pictures. His current explorations are oriented towards the research for correlations of sound spectrum and architecture space, the interaction of tones and the search in timbres of sine waves, white noises, various instruments and field recordings.

He initially studied Jazz Guitar (BA, Karol Szymanowski’s Music Academy in Katowice), only to quickly move on to Composition Studies (BA, Stanisław Moniuszko’s Music Academy in Gdańsk) and then moved to Copenhagen where he studied Music Creation (MA, Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium).

His most influential teachers were Catherine Lamb, Leszek Kułakowski, Paweł Mykietyn, Ellen Arkbro and Jacob Anderskov.

He is closely associated with students of The Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice, Łódź Film School and Danish Film Institute.

Today he co-leads his quartet ZIEMIA, which was formed in 2019. Since 2020, he was closely associated with the Kolonia Artystów in Gdańsk and Gdańsk’s electroacoustic music society.

He collaborated with Antonina Nowacka, Aleksandra Słyż, Max Posio, Antonina Car, Bartosz Borzeszkowski, Michał Jacaszek, Sylwester Gałuszka, Maja Miro, Podpora/Kohyt, Tomasz Gadecki and Michał Markiewicz.
