Michał Lazar

Composer and guitarist.

Founder of Orkiestra Spokoju – a Warsaw ensemble drawing upon jazz, ambient and post-rock to play the world’s most soothing songs without lyrics. He regularly collaborates as a guitarist with Spółdzielnia Muzyczna contemporary ensemble, with which he has performed at Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum, Audio Art and other festivals.

Winner of composing competitions: Katowice (2016), Gdańsk (2017), Bydgoszcz (2018), Warsaw (2019). Author of music for many theatre productions, including Przebudzenie wiosny [Spring Awakening] (Ochoty Theatre in Warsaw), Picnic at Hanging Rock (Contemporary Theatre in Szczecin), Bezpieczne miejsce [A Safe Place] (Łaźnia Nowa Theatre in Kraków). He regularly collaborates with Aleksander Wnuk, with whom he performs live music for Manhattan – a dance theatre play directed by Dominika Wiak and Daniela Komędera-Miśkiewicz, qualified for the Polish Dance Network, the Teatr Polska programme and the final of BestOFF.

Graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków in the composition class of Maciej Jabłoński (first-cycle studies) and the guitar class of Michał Nagy (second-cycle studies). He developed his composing skills and techniques also under the eye of Artur Zagajewski.

In September 2020, his debut solo album Z miasta historie was released by Kraków label IPT rec. He is working together with drummer Maciej Hałoń on a symphony cycle Mechaniczne sny [Mechanical Dreams], the first part of which has already been performed at the Subcarpathian Philharmonic in Rzeszów and the Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn. Winner of the Artistic Scholarship of the Capital City of Warsaw.
