Born 1983, Australian double bassist and composer with Polish roots. He has been based in Berlin since 2011.
Active across a wide range of contemporary music since the early 2000s, Majkowski has developed a highly unique approach to the double bass, extending and refining technical possibilities for the instrument. His music ranges from purely acoustic to electroacoustic to electronic and explores relationships between stillness and pulse, spectral qualities of resonance, as well as duration and perceptions of listening.
Aside from his solo work, Majkowski has collaborated with a diverse array of artists such as Chris Abrahams, Oren Ambarchi, Jim Denley, Catherine Lamb, Magda Mayas, Hailu Mergia, Phill Niblock, Andrea Parkins, Anthony Pateras, Michael Pisaro, Jon Rose and Hollis Taylor.
He has appeared on over 40 albums, has produced 11 albums of solo music to date, and has an extensive touring history, performing at key venues and festivals around the world.
For his performance at Sacrum Profanum, Majkowski will be premiering a new composition for solo double bass entitled Gravity.
