One festival, a multitude of forms of artistic expression - concerts, operas, performances, projections and exhibitions are joined by a sound installation! From 1 until 8 October, between 10am and 8pm, the Małopolska Art Garden hosts a free installation Shibboleth open to everyone whether they hold tickets or not. It allows visitors to experience the alchemy of contemporary music on their own skin - literally!
Paweł Kulczyński's installation Shibboleth is a capsule shaped like a regular dodecahedron, comprising five speakers placed spherically around the listener and a powerful woofer which also acts as a seat transferring low frequencies directly to the listener's bones.
It's an instrument synthesising spatial sound on the basis of the heartbeat, and a hyper-ambisonic listening space. The listener sits inside it, becoming the performer and a part of the instrument - an element of the speaker and a part of the process of the creation of sound. Shibboleth interacts with the pulse transmitted from the band on your wrist. Composition that you can hear inside reacts to a reading, making the listener its co-author. The essence of sensualism!
