Sacrum Profanum 2023

Changes to the Sacrum Profanum programme

2018-07-27

We regret to inform you that for reasons beyond the control of the organisers, the concert "Personaggi: Euridice” has been cancelled. Instead, we will hear works by Antoine Chessex and Linda Catlin Smith performed by Apartment House, Philip Thomas and Anton Lukoszevieze during the "Accumulation" concert.

The “Accumulation” concert will show two extremely different approaches to contemporary music by Apartment House. Silent, minimal and full of space, the compositions by Linda Catlin Smith from Canada will be juxtaposed with works by Antoine Chessex, a virtuoso of analogue electronics, and by Jérôm Noettinger, who has been working with the band and returning to the festival. The title composition and “Plastic Concrete” are dense and overwhelming, they not only give the impression of immersion in the sound, but even of coming into contact with the phenomenon of a wall of sound. The textural thicket and microtonal tensions form a sound mass that tightly fills the space.

Antoine Chessex - Plastic Concrete (2014) 24'
Linda Catlin Smith - Ricercar (2015) 10'
Linda Catlin Smith - Far from Shore (2010) 17'
Antoine Chessex - Accumulation (2015) 34'

Anton Lukoszevieze - cello
Philip Thomas - piano
