Wojciech Błażejczyk

Composer, guitarist, sound engineer. Born in 1981, he studied composition at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in Prof. Zygmunt Krauze’s class, as well as sound engineering at the FCUM. Since 2010, he has been an assistant at the Faculty of Sound Engineering at the FCUM and in the Computer Music Studio of the FCUM. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Polish Composers’ Union.

He performs new music on the electric guitar and using live electronics. He has given many performances, including at the Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova, AdLibitum, Musica Moderna, Audio Art, Ankunft: Neue Musik, Olympus Jazz Festival, Visegard Portraits, Meridien, the Poznań Spring and the Warsaw Autumn. He performs with the Hashtag Ensemble, as well as performing live music for silent films with the Niemy Movie ensemble. He has given premiere performances of works by Agata Zubel, Artur Zagajewski, Zygmunt Krauze, Rafał Augustyn and others. In 2013, he released a monograph album, Loopowizacje (with the Dom Wydawniczy For Tune label), with works for solo electric guitar, chamber ensembles and electronica, on which he also performs. His works have been presented at many festivals in Poland and abroad, including New Music Concerts (Toronto), Polish Modern: New Directions in Polish Music Since 1945 (New York), Visegard Portraits (Budapest), Musica Moderna, Musica Electronica Nova, Musica Polonica Nova, Poznań Musical Spring, Warsaw Music Meetings and AudioArt, by ensembles such as the Gorzów Philharmonic, the Kalisz Philharmonic, the New Music Concerts Ensemble, the Wratislavia Orchestra, the Radom Chamber Orchestra, Kwadrofonik, Sinfonia Iuventus and Hashtag Ensemble.

In the 2014/2015 season, he was composer-in-residence at the Prof. Jan Szyrocki Academic Choir of the Western Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, as part of the Institute of Music and Dance programme. He creates both acoustic and electroacoustic music, as well as music for theatre and film. He has won a number of awards in composition competitions, including 3rdplace in the 1st K. Penderecki International Composition Competition, 1st place in the 52nd Tadeusz Baird Young Composers Competition for the work Exhorta for tape (2011), 2nd place in the 51stTadeusz Baird Young Composers Competition for the piece Apnea for two percussions and 2 pianos (2010). His workWarsaw Music was part of the EBU Palm Ars Acustica 2016 competition. He is a two-time recipient of the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Keimyung Research Foundation. In 2014, he received the Magna Cum Laude medal, awarded to the best graduates of the FCUM. In 2013, he took part in the IRCAM Forum Workshops in Paris.

As a sound engineer, he collaborates with the Warsaw Autumn festival and creates sound design for films and audiobooks.
