Piotr Orzechowski

Born in 1990. Polish pianist and composer, one of the most award-winning jazz musicians of the young generation. His artistic activity is best presented by the awards and distinctions he received, of which the most important is the Main Prize at the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition (2011) taking place as part of the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival.

Awarded at the most prestigious international festivals not only as pianist and composer, but also as the frontman of the High Definition Quartet, with which he won several international competitions – including the Jazz Hoeilaart in Belgium (2011) and released successfully a critically-acclaimed album with his own compositions titled „HOPASA” (2013) under the EmArcy Records brand.

In 2012 Piotr Orzechowski released his debut solo album with arrangements and compositions inspired by the works of Krzysztof Penderecki titles „Experiment: Penderecki” under the imprint of Decca Classics. The album was at the top of the rankings of the most important albums of 2012 according to key music critics in Poland.

In 2013 awarded „Polish Jazz Oscar” in the category „Music Lovers’Hope”. Titled „The New Hope of Polish Jazz” by Jazz Forum magazine (2014).
He was nominated for the most important Polish awards: „Koryfeusz Muzyki Polskiej” („Outstanding Figure of Polish Music”, 2012), „Gwarancje Kultury” („Cultural Guarantees”, 2013) of the TVP Kultura channel, „Fryderyk” (2013), and others.

He cooperated with many outstanding personalities, such as: Adrian Utley of Portishead, Randy Brecker, Victor Mendoza, the Skalpel duo, Paweł Mykietyn, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Adam Bałdych, and Vladislav ‚Adzik’ Sendecki.

He is invited to important festivals such as: the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Septembre Musical Festival (Switzerland), Taipei International Percussion Convention, Unsound London, Sacrum Profanum Festival (Krakow), Nostalgia (Poznań), Dni Muzyki Nowej [New Music Days] (Gdańsk), OFF Festival (Katowice), Open’er (Gdynia). Together with the High Definition Quartet, he has visited the Gulf Jazz Festival (Kuwait-Bahrain), the Getxo Jazz Festival (Spain), Druivenfestival (Belgium) and others.

His newest album - „Bach Rewrite” under Decca Classics label (2013) includes innovative and surprising readings of Johann Sebastian Bach’s harpsichord concerts enriched with jazz cadences, played on the Rhodes piano, along with a pianist Marcin Masecki played on the Wurlitzer piano accompanied by Krakow based early music group – Capella Cracoviensis.
