Michał Górczyński

Clarinettist, composer and music educator. He is a graduate of the F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. Since 1998, he has been composing music for various instrumental combinations (Zróżnicowanie for two bassoons and a clarinet, Rondo à la krakowiak for screaming pianist and a bass clarinet, Malowanie for two clarinets, bassoon, double bass and singing, Suita w stylu żydowskim for clarinet, violin and double bass, as well as cycles of works inspired by world languages for violin, clarinet and cello) and theatrical music (about 25 performances for dramatic and puppet theatres).

He is actively engaged in improvisation and contemporary music interpretation. He has performed solos with such ensembles as de Ereprijs, Kwartet Śląski, the “Aukso” Orchestra, the Podlasie Philharmonic and the Szczecin Philharmonic. He participated in the International Contemporary Music Courses in Darmstadt, where he presented his original performance techniques on the bass clarinet. He is the author of installations, theoretical texts on original theories, radio dramas and underground films. Since 2002, he has co-created the Kwartludium ensemble, which specialises in the performance of contemporary music. Since 2008, he has worked on expanding the sound possibilities of the bass clarinet, inspired by beat boxing and working with one of the best Polish beat boxers, Patryk “Tik Tak” Matela. He is the creator of the “composed education” concept. Recipient of scholarships from the City of Warsaw and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the programme to create alternative educational textbooks. Since 2013, he has been carrying out the “music to languages” project, creating original music for Yiddish texts (album released with Multikulti Records), Japanese poetry (the album premiered in 2015) and Persian poetry (album premiere in 2016). Since 2016, he has been specialising in playing the contrabass clarinet.
