Barbara Kinga Majewska

Vocalist, lyricist, publicist, initiator of contemporary music projects. Nominated for the „Polityka” Passport Award 2015 in Classical Music category. According to „Wysokie Obcasy” magazine, one of the 50 most influential women in Poland in 2016.

She graduated in vocal music and music teaching from Hochschule für Musik Detmold. She studied singing at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and musicology at the University of Warsaw. Post-graduate studies in song at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.

The holder of the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, DAAD, Bertelsmann Stiftung, Richard-Wagner-Stiftung, Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung, and Hans und Stefan Bernbeck Stiftung. Finalist at the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition. Participated in the Opera Academy of the Wielki Theatre – National Opera and master classes under Angelika Kirchschlager, Grace Bumbry, Christa Ludwig, Barbara Bonney, Anita Garanča and András Schiff. Completed the 47th International New Music Course in Darmstadt in Donatienne Michel-Dansac’s class. Participated in the first edition of the New Face of Music programme of the Institute of Music and Dance.

She had her debut in 2014, in Sławomir Wojciechowski’s opera Zwycięstwo nad Słońcem (Victory over the Sun) [Projekt P] at the Wielki Thetra – National Opera in Warsaw. She performed first premieres of works by Aleksander Gryka, Marcin Stańczyk, Andrzej Kwieciński, Wojciech Blecharz, Sławomir Wojciechowski, Karol Nepelski, Joanna Woźny, Lukas Ligeti, Adam Walicki, Jason Buchanan and Julian Lembke. In Paweł Mykietyn‘s opera Czarodziejska Góra (The Magic Mountain) staged by Andrzej Chyra she performs the part of Clavdia Chauchat. In the Polish premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s opera Lost Highway she performs the parts of Renee and Alice.

Ever since September 2016, she has been a columnist in „Ruch Muzyczny”.She authored Krytyczny przewodnik po sposobach realizacji zapisu nutowego we współczesnej muzyce wokalnej(Critical Vocal Guide) and the manifesto Nowa Śpiewność w Muzyce Współczesnej (Cantability in Contemporary Music).
