Artur Zagajewski

Artur Zagajewski (born 1978) graduated with honours from the theory of music (2005) under the direction of Prof. Ryszard Daniel Golianek and composition (2008) in the class of Prof. Bronisław Kazimierz Przybylski at the Academy of Music in Łódź. He studied electronic music under the direction of dr hab. Krzysztof Knittel. In 2012, he defended his doctoral dissertation in composition under the direction of Prof. Zygmunt Krauze.


He is a winner of numerous awards, including International Composition Competition “850 Jahre Cottbus – Musikalische Bilder einer Stadt”, BMW Crash!, the Tadeusz Baird Young Composers’ Competition, the Grażyna Bacewicz International Composition Competition in Łódź and the “in-OUT-side” competition organised as part of the Sound Screen Festival in Bydgoszcz. He is the winner of the Łódź EUREKA award, and was nominated for the Coryphaeus of Polish Music award in the Personality of the Year category, as well as for a Polityka weekly “Passport” in the Classical Music category.


His works have been presented at festivals in Poland and abroad. The composition Stabat Mater was nominated for the Wrocław Polonica Nova Award, and the piece brut representing the Polish Radio received the highest position at the International Rostrum of Composers in Palermo.
Zagajewski has collaborated with cellist Dominik Połoński, choreographer Paulina Wycichowska, performer Zorka Wollny, video artist Michał Brzeziński, as well as ensembles Bang on a Can All-Stars, Kwartludium, Arte dei Suonatori and Polish Cello Quartet.


He is involved in research on rock music. As part of his popularisation activity, he conducts lectures and workshops for young people on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. He is an adjunct professor at the Academy of Music in Łódź, as well as a member of the Polish Composers’ Union and the Programme Committee of the “Warsaw Autumn” International Festival of Contemporary Music.
