Alarm Will Sound

20-member chamber orchestra that focuses on performances of contemporary music. Called by the New York Times “one of the most vital and original ensembles on the American music scene”, it works closely with eminent composers, including: Steve Reich, John Adams, David Lang, Anthony Gatto and Wolfgang Rihm. In 2006, the ASCAP honoured Alarm Will Sound with its Concert Music Award for “the virtuosity, passion and commitment with which they perform and champion the repertory for the 21st century.” Their 2005 album Acoustica features acoustic arrangements of music by Aphex Twin. In 2009 their album a/rhythmia was published by Nonesuch records – an eclectic mix of complex rhythms by: Benedict Mason, Michael Gordon, György Ligeti, Mochipet, Johannes Ciconia, Conlon Nancarrow, Harrison Birtwistle, Josquin des Prez and Autechre. In 2010, the group collaborated with an Indie band Dirty Projectors to develop and perform the project The Getty Address in its new identity as a live performance of the album of the same name. The Getty Address has been performed at the Lincoln Center, Disney Hall and the Barbican Centre.
