The artist has received a number of awards and distinctions in many domestic and international competitions. She won, among others, the following prizes: 2nd place in the H. Halska Competition in Wrocław, 3rd prize and special award in the K. Szymanowski Competition in Łódź, 1st prize and three special awards in the 2nd J.J. and E. Reszko Competition in Częstochowa, special award at the International H. Gabor Belvedere Competition in Vienna, as well as the first prize, along with a special award of the Opera in Frankfurt in the ISA2012 Voice Competition.
She was also a finalist at the Viotti Competition in Vercelli. She has participated in the International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn (2010, 2015, 2016, 2017), the Contrechamps Festival in Geneva, Saaremaa Opera Days in Estonia, Melos-Étos in Bratislava, as well as in “7 Trends and 7 Premieres”, organised on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Polish Composers' Association. In 2011 she performed at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. In the same year she made her debut as Musetto in G. Puccini's La Boheme (Poland), Vénus and Phrygian Woman in Rameau's Dardanus (Ireland, Great Britain) and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte (Poland, Italy).
She sang the part of Marguerite in Gounod's Faust at the Estonian National Opera, the Machine in K. Wołek's Nici at NFM in Wrocław, Susanna in E. Langer and D. Pountneny's Figaro Gets a Divorce. Pountney at the St. Moniuszko Teatr Wielki in Poznań, Psyche in Eros and Psyche at TWiON in Warsaw. The artist has successfully persformed works from all epochs.
She specialises in performing contemporary music (e.g. "Credentials or Think, Think Lucky" by R. Haubenstock-Ramati, "Shakespeare's Sonnets" by P. Mykietyn, "Les Noces" by S. Stravinsky). She has performed a dozen or so premieres, including Stabat Mater by A. Pärt, Sadness Untitled by M. Nikodijević, Primordia Rerum by O. Bianchi, In Memoriam by U. Caine, Canticum Puerorum by E. Knapik.
Joanna Freszel has given concerts at home and abroad with orchestras such as NOSPR, Sinfonia Iuventus, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Świętokrzyskie Philharmonic and the M. Karłowicz Philharmonic Orchestra in Szczecin, the Capella Bydgostiensis Chamber Orchestra, the New Music Orchestra, the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, the Orkestr de ereprijs (Netherlands), the Österreichisches Ensemble für Neue Musik (Austria) and the Camerata Viva Symphony Orchestra. She has performed under the direction of such conductors as Jerzy Maksymiuk, Gabriel Chmura, Jacek Kaspszyk, Krzesimir Dębski, Jerzy Salwarowski, Marek Moś, Paul Esswood, Wim Boerman, Szymon Bywalec, Tadeusz Strugała, Jacek Rogala, Adam Klocek, Arturo Tamayo and Michał Dworzyński.
During her tour of Ukraine, she performed Chantefleurs et chantefables by Witold Lutosławski with the Philharmonic Orchestras in Lviv, Odessa, Chernihiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk.
In 2015, the DUX label released the artist's debut album, real life song, which included works by Polish composers of the young generation - M. Bembinowa, A. Kościowa, R. Janiak, A. Zubel, S. Zamuszki, A. Borzyma, Jr., J. Szmytki and K. Szwed - who wrote their works especially for the soprano singer. The album received nominations for the Fryderyk 2016 award in two categories and the Orphée d'Or award from the Academie du Disque Lyrique for the best interpretation of contemporary music.
